Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful. To WeWriWa here we go, click the links, words will flow, comments grow! I love this time of year, and Weekend Writing Warriors is the gift that keeps on giving. You are able to share works that are in progress or published with fellow readers and authors, you are able to read other's literary works, and everyone shares insight and opinion as well as kudos with each other. So very glad WeWriWa is year-round, not just once a year : )
Last week, we left off with Lareina explaining to our handsome Selkie men, why they were in trouble. You know, with Lareina's sister Zelera stealing the young prince Kes, and making off with him, sending a Kraken to attack the ladies boat, that kind of thing. We pick up with Murphy speaking first...
“Sounds like ye’ve got a bit of trouble on your hands, tis true.” The scowl on Murphy’ face softened, “But why the lies?”
“Murphy, you gentlemen saw damsels in distress. You thought we’d fall head over heels for our rescuers, especially with those talented eyes of yours. You’ve been lonely, you found someone to care for…”
His shoulders sagged, “Aye, we thought our solitude a thing of the past.”
“You don’t have to live alone,” Ravyn piped up. "Take a trip to Aigerach; there are ladies a-plenty to catch your eye.”
But does he want just any ladies-a-plenty?? :-) I'm loving the dialect, Millie. Great job writing that!
ReplyDeleteHe's never seen any ladies besides the women before him. I think Ravyn wants Seamus to know he's got options.
DeleteGo, Murphy, you fool, go, THERE ARE LADIES!!!! (Ahem...sorry.)
ReplyDeleteGreat dialogue, Millie, and I agree with Teresa the dialect is fun!
Ooh, glad it's working. I always worry it might be over the top and annoying. I try to put the flavor there without drowning in it : )
DeleteNice dialect as always. You definitely have a knack for linguistics and your characters are so vivid. I wonder if Murphy wants to be around the ladies? If I were him, I'd dash over to Aigerach post haste.
ReplyDeleteMurphy would probably love another woman in his life, but poor Seamus is really the young buck whose never had a chance...
DeleteAh, Millie. You've captured my heart with your characters. They don't want ladies' a'plenty. This is a terrific cliff hanger.
ReplyDeleteWell, these ladies were sort of an opportunistic find. The men have lived isolated on their island for years. Ladies a'plenty may be just what the doctor ordered.
DeleteIsolated men who still manage to be gentlemen.. that's very sweet!!
ReplyDeleteThey just want someone to love : )
DeleteThey must be alone on the island for a reason- otherwise why not go in search of the ladies? But I agree with the others, he's probably been waiting for that special princess to wash up on his shore. Loving the interaction between these characters- your snippets are always so enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the Selkies have been killed. They two survived the massacre. So, Murphy isn't very trusting of humans.
DeleteI love how they're trying to console him in his disappointment:)
ReplyDelete: )
DeleteThose poor men . . . send 'em my way, Millie! :D
ReplyDelete: ) They are pretty sweet with such sexy accents : )
DeleteI suspect he'll like having his pick of the ladies and ending his loneliness.
ReplyDeleteHe may find someone new...it could happen : )
DeleteQuite the conversation! I don't know whether to hope he takes her advice to go visit Aigerach, or whether he should make more of an effort with Lareina. Thoroughly intrigued, excellent excerpt!
ReplyDeleteLareina is married, and Ravyn is betrothed. It really is in the best interest of everyone, if the men don't push it with the ladies : )
DeleteNothing like options! ;)
ReplyDeleteOptions are good.
DeleteSo the mean aunt absconded with the prince? It's been a few weeks, so I missed that part :$ The guy's response here is amusing. At least he is honest about his expectations, lol. I guess they don't have Match.com in this fantasy realm XD The dialogue here is great and comes off effortless :D
ReplyDeleteThat's what started this whole chase...that evil Zelera.
DeleteWell glad the ladies are coming clean. Not sure the guys have left their island, but if they do, I think they will find companions. Hopefully they'll be willing to help the ladies on their quest.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see if these two will leave...
DeleteI wonder if not leaving the island has something to do with their not having a special lady? I feel bad for the guys, but then I've always been a softie. Your dialogue is wonderful, I can hear the lilt in my mind as I read the words. Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteTheir entire islands population was wiped out by man, they haven't wanted to be around people much since then...
DeleteLove the dialogue here and how unique each voice is. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThank you Christina : )
DeleteAw, I like how Ravyn tries to help him. Poor men 😔 and like everyone said, great dialogue. I can hear the characters in my head.
ReplyDeleteWell thank you. Glad it's not over the top. I worry about the accents and writing them in sometimes...
