It's Sunday! It's the day of the week, that several talented authors share little snippets of their work for your enjoyment. Be careful, once you start travelling around to all the sites, you get yourself hooked, on story after story, and you have to come back week after week (whew, what a run-on). If you'd like to find all the amazing folks listed in one place, please click the link to WeWriWa.
I'm returning to Return of the Crown, last week, Ravyn did some hoping and gave the dragon some serious praise, hoping it would be enough to keep her from being torched. If you'd like to refresh, click here.
The dragon cocked
its head, puzzled. It began growling, but
Ravyn heard, “Is that why you stole my egg?”
“Stole your
egg? I’ve only been here since
yesterday. How could I have stolen your
egg?”
“My egg was missing when I returned from hunting last
night. You admit you have been here a whole day. You had time..."I have recently returned to the world of outside the home work...which has been fun, but this past week, kept me very busy. Today is my only day off...and I'm heading out with the dear husband to watch a matinee performance of Les Miserables. I will get by as many folks as I can before I need to go, and will catch up with whomever I missed in the next couple days! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
The dragon seems "imposing" and scary - that was communicated well in your 8.
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you! She can be a handful!
DeleteVery interesting. I'll be back for more.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to your next visit : )
DeleteOh dear, dragon thinks she did it and has even worked out the logistics: I like intelligent dragons! I like this excerpt for a lot of reasons, one of which is that it raises questions that can only be answered by reading more: did she pick up the egg without realizing what it was? Is the dragon wrong after all? Is the truth something else yet again? :D
ReplyDeleteGlad you have some questions...you'll see a bit more next week!
DeleteI think Guilty as Charged! But I'm not the judge. Charming with a sense of mystery
ReplyDeleteLots of folks, and dragons jump to conclusions...they aren't always right : ) Thanks for swinging by Charmaine.
DeleteI'm enjoying that Ravyn can understand this beast and hoping it makes their relationship less frightening!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gemma, she's lucky she can talk to it...
DeleteI want to know who took the egg and will they get it back.
ReplyDeletehave fun with the hubby
Thanks Michelle, Les Mis was wonderful! The egg has been stolen...that much I can confirm : )
DeleteLove this snippet [course I love dragons :-)] Consider perhaps instead of "It began growling" - It growled - just seemed more active to me. Very nice 8 and good luck with re-entering the workforce outside the home.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan, I will make a note of that change. And so far, my forays into the workforce have been challenging and fun. I work in physical therapy in rehab, so the biggest adjustment has been to being on my feet all day...but I'm starting to accommodate : )
DeleteWonder how Ravyn will talk her way out of this and help the dragon?! Terrific snippet!
ReplyDelete: ) Yay, gotcha wondering.
DeleteI begin to get an inkling of how the friendship might start.
ReplyDelete: ) Some of the best friends are made in adverse situations. Been thinking about you, hope you are on the mend!
DeleteI love how this relationship is beginning, and I wonder if the missing egg is the young dragon we witnessed in previous adventures!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a snippet to share this week, so need to hunt for mine... I'm just glad to read more of Ravyn's friendship blooming with Ena. I like Susan Stuckey's advice, as well, about "growled" - it really does make a nice improvement on an already excellent snippet!
Thanks Susan, but I am sorry I won't get another snippet from you this week. You just want to tantalize us...I'm so glad you still made the rounds! Hope your week goes well, and I'm looking forward to more : )
DeleteThe missing egg may indeed turn out to be a young and scampering red male dragon : )
The dragon has some explaining to do. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThanks Frank : )
DeleteOh, how interesting. I wonder who took the egg...I hope Ravyn is able to help find it!
ReplyDeleteSomeone did indeed take the egg...
DeleteI love dragons! Great 8!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennifer, they can be delightful!
DeleteOh I love return of the crown, I'm thinking I might have to have another read of it now, you've tempted me, you tease you :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Joss, I'm trying to finish up the sequel too! So nice to see you again!
DeleteOh as sequel awesome Now I'm really excited :)
DeleteOh dear. I know how broody hens act when humans get to close to their eggs, I imagine dragon's are a great deal scarier. This is a very compelling snippet, great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jess, Ravyn's in the hot seat now : )
DeleteI knew there had to be a reason! And now I want to know who hte egg-thief is . . .
ReplyDeleteSoon...all will be revealed : )
DeleteA tricky situation there, with great charaterisation for the dragon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stevie.
DeleteLove dragons! Nice snippet!
ReplyDeleteThanks for swinging through Sandra!
DeleteI can imagine where stealing eggs could b considered the highest crime among the scaled ones.
ReplyDeleteGreat snippet, Millie!
Yup, there's not much worse than that.
DeleteUh oh, sounds like they'd better get this missing egg stuff cleared up soon! :-)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to the world of the 40+outsidethehome. It really makes writing tough. But we all do what we have to do :-)
Good 8, Millie! :-)
Within the next couple weeks, all should be understood. Thanks for the welcome. It's been a drastic change to my system, but so far so good. It'll keep getting better as time goes on.
DeleteDon't mess with the dragon's egg! Great 8! Hope you enjoyed Les Mis. :)
ReplyDeleteMaggie
Thanks Margaret! Les Mis was wonderful!
DeleteI'm liking this look back on how she first met the dragon. At this point though I can't figure how she is going to get out of it. I'm so enjoying your snippets.
ReplyDeleteHistory Sleuth's Milk Carton Murders
Thanks Cindy, time will tell : )
DeleteI guess now Ravyn will have to go egg hunting. No wonder the dragon was pissed.
ReplyDeleteEgg stealing is pretty stinking mean!
