Last week Ravyn and Blade had reunited after a very long separation. But, they are on the middle of a cliff face, some very nasty people are chasing them, and they need to figure out how to get down. After last week's embrace, Blade has taken a moment to survey their options.
The ledge they
were standing on overhung the cliff below.
Lying on his stomach, he looked over the edge. Rising he winked at Ravyn. “I have a plan.”
Grabbing the lip of the cliff, he swung over
the edge, hanging for a moment. Then his hands slipped free, and he was gone. Ravyn gasped, then heard, “Ravyn, there’s a
large ledge here. Swing over, and I’ll catch
you.”
Thanks for swinging by and checking in. Any opinions or thoughts? I'd love to hear them! Last week, my word color choices were like a candy corn...this week? A pumpkin. I'm in the mood for Halloween!!!!
Gawd, I've missed your enthusiasm!
ReplyDeleteBlade has it figured out--he has a plan ;-) Good action writing. The movement was easy to visualize. :-)
Yay. Climbing is a passion of mine, so I feel like it's pretty easy to write about it.
DeleteI agree with Teresa, Millie. It can be hard to write action without getting bogged down with detail, and you have got it down. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, glad you enjoyed it Kim : )
DeleteI'm glad his plan involves more than just jumping off a cliff!
ReplyDeleteHe's pretty slick and sly, this guy : )
DeleteLove that you use some color and everything is still readable, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat excerpt, as usual. I'm running over to the edge to look over, because he had me worried too when he just dropped off like that!
He had a place to go...bummer for Ravyn, she has to follow : )
DeleteWelcome back! I was off last week and very happy to return and see your name on the list. And right back into the swing of things with a great action scene. Yeah!
ReplyDeleteShucks, thanks : )
DeleteI'm in the mood for Halloween too, and I'm always in the mood to read your stories, Millie! Such a fun, action-filled excerpt! Well done! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Evelyn. I always hope the reader can see what I see : )
DeleteI'm with the gang-action and spirit just like you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Charmaine : )
DeleteGreat snippet! Hanging on the cliff is always scary. :)
ReplyDeleteI happen to enjoy it, climbing is so much fun to me...but I realize for many folks, it would get their pulses racing and their palms sweaty!
DeleteThat's so crazy plans! I wonder if he knew about the ledge before hand.
ReplyDeleteNice thinking (for Blade I mean). I've never gone rock-climbing, but I agree with your comment about it gets pulses racing. This snippet ends on a good note. I hope Rayvn trusts Blade to catch her.
ReplyDeleteHoly heck that's scary! Great scene. I could never.....
ReplyDeleteHistory Sleuth's Wewriwa Mystery
"I have a plan"--dangerous words. And a dangerous plan, too!
ReplyDeleteThat was great - a danger-filled moment of suspense when he disappears over the edge and then - a handy ledge below! Great excerpt...
ReplyDeleteOh, another intriguing snippet. For a sec I wondered if he had misjudged;). Great snap of tension.
