Weekend Writing Warriors

My first WeWriWa post. How thrilling. Without much further ado, I will share eight sentences of my WIP with you (Fantasy genre). The protagonist, Ravyn and her mother Lareina have come to the rescue...but is it too late?

"Connor, can you hear me," Ravyn reached over and tapped him on the chest.
His eyes were open wide, but he didn't respond.
Lareina sank to the floor, head in her hands.
Deadly silence infused the room. Ravyn looked to Josh, "Get my father, please," she whispered.
Magda lay on her side. Her soft gray hair fell about her face wise with wrinkles. Her lips turned up in a small smile. Ravyn leaned over to trace a gentle kiss across Magada's forehead, "Blessings of the Light upon you," she murmured.

'Cause it makes us feel good

Would you like to do something for no reason other than it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy cool and comfortable?

My sister-in-law posted a link in her facebook account about a dad who could use your help. Here's the glorious thing...it doesn't cost you a dime, just a click of your mouse and then a second click. A vote. A Sacramento area HVAC company is offering to give a free AC unit to people who could really use it, but might not be able to afford it. Take a moment, read this dad's story (Paul StGeme Option H), and click the button to vote for him and his family. Or if you're short on time, just go to the site and vote for him. Sounds like this guy could use a helping hand, and he sounds like the kind of person who actually deserves it!

I don't personally know this man, but his son is my nephew's best bud.

I miss you Merbles!

Merbles, dear momma, I miss you. I know you are at peace and looking down from high above, keeping a watchful eye on our family. I hope we continue to make you proud! Every year on this day, I get to feeling selfish and a tiny bit angry, because I just want to talk to you one more time. To sit on your lap again and have you brush back my hair and give me one of those amazing forehead kisses.

You are as old as you think you are...

Short and sweet. Yesterday I was in my early 40's...today I have hit the mid 40's. But, age is just a number. I may have a few wrinkles and a little extra fluff...but I still feel as fun-loving as I did back in my twenties. So, I am not really in my mid 40's. Nope, I'm in my mid 20's. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

And, this is pretty much me now...except the me writing still has bed head and hasn't had her first cup of coffee : ) Shoot, it's my birthday...maybe I'll skip the coffee and go back to champagne first thing in the morning!

Review: The Charge by Sharon Bayliss

I finished reading The Charge and am compelled to tell you it's worth your time and money to read it yourself.

The action, the suspense, the mystery...The Charge! This book grabbed me from the get-go and drove me through page after page. The wild ride through an alternate universe caused my breath to catch in my throat time and again. The electrical energy of the quality of the writing caused all my synapses to fire...anxiously awaiting more Sharon!

Hai-ku: Bless you

Short and sweet as I slip back in to the real world, after putting together an elementary school yearbook, making sure my daughter and her friends pulled off their song at the talent show, and assisting my child with the building of the Mission of Santa Cruz.

I am going to post a Millie version of Haiku. I was just thinking...wouldn't it be fun to post a Haiku, using only 2 5-syllable words and 1 seven-syllable word? I'm sure it's been done before, but I'd never thought to try it...

So here's what I came up with...

Cannibalism
Individualistic
Ingurgitation

Okay, so it's probably only funny to me : ) I can appreciate that.

Review: The Written

I started this book ages ago. Then things got busy, you know NaNoWriMo, Christmas, paying taxes, kids, heck life. So it sat in my kindle half-read for quite some time. I recently have been working on my daughter's school yearbook. I've gone through so many pictures my eyes started watering and I couldn't distinguish a first grader from a sixth grader and decided to take a break. So, I finally finished reading The Written, by Ben Galley.

This story is Ben's first, but I know there's another just waiting to be loaded into my kindle. I'm looking forward to returning to the world of Emaneska to find out how the story will mature and to see if Ben's writing also matured. I really enjoyed this action packed fantasy novel. The story is unique and powerful, the characters are fully fleshed and come alive. I really wanted to give it five stars, but there were a few things that kept me from doing so. Nothing major, so it still receives a 3 1/2 to 4 star rating from me. I'm so wishy washy I can't decide which to give it. One more edit, with a little heavier red pen and this would deserve the full five stars! I felt like there were times when four or five words could've been taken out and replaced with just one. And some just didn't need to be there at all. I know, picky picky. It's just that with a story of this magnitude, those extra little words make it drag a little. But here's the deal, I did enjoy the story, and I do want to read more. That's all a person needs to know, right?

I won't bore you by rehashing what it's about. If you like magic, DRAGONS, and lots of action and suspense, go see if it's your cup of tea!
