WeWriWa - A Hint of Berry

Weekend Writing Warriors are out once again to share eight lines of work with you.  Yes, you.  Your next favorite read may be found if you travel the Warrior road...the variety of work available is astounding.  Just click this Link and you'll find more story samples than you can shake a stick at.  There's bound to be something a word weary traveler will enjoy.

Last week we left off with our tiny Clurichaun friend slurring out..."and that shleepy head's the Queen?" Today we begin with Ravyn's answer...

“Well, yes, I suppose…”
The little man belched far louder than his tiny body had any right to allow, shaking the leaves in the trees.  Lareina flinched at the noise, and the wine bag slid from her lap.  His Nibs eyes fell on the leather bag.  “Ah,” he sniffed, “a hint of berry, a little honeysuckle, and a taste of toffee that lingers on the palate…”
“You can smell all that?”

He winked his bloodshot eyes.  “Thazz what drew me and me sheepy friend here; I haven’ had any Royal wine in yearz...might I,” he paused licking his lips, “sample a wee nip?”

Ah, so much fun, this guy.  As always, I look forward to your comments and advice.  Have a very wonderful Sunday!

WeWriWa - Prin-shess Rav-hic-yn?

You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of characters and plot  but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land with no boundaries fueled by imagination. That's a signpost up ahead: your next stop: the WeWriWa Zone!

Last week's episode left Ravyn nearly falling asleep by a campfire, when a strange little man somersaulted off the back of a wildly careening sheep to introduce himself.  We take up with Ravyn asking...

“His Nibs?”
He rolled his eyes and his head wobbled on his little neck.  He straightened the lapels of his blue velvet jacket, and smoothed out the wrinkles in his trousers with overlarge, over-clumsy movements. “Yup, my lil’ laydee…HizzzNibz.”  He placed his cap back on his head, covering up his jet black hair, giving her a conspiratorial wink.
“Well, pleasure to meet you, my name is Ravyn and this is my mother Lareina.”

His blue eyes sparkled, “Prin-shess Rav-hic-yn?”  He rubbed his reddened nose, “And, that shleepy head’s the Queen?”

As always, I love to hear your thoughts, so if you feel compelled (like maybe someone cast a spell on you or something...) just leave a comment below!  I hope you are all enjoying spring.  I am very excited this week, as my wonderful middle child is home on Spring Break!!!!  Yay for me.  I miss her something fierce when she's away at school.

WeWriWa - Ta da!

And a right tip top of the mornin' to ye.  An' welcome to the Irish edition of Weekend Writing Warriors.  My  McAuthor clan and I are right proud to share eight lines of writing with any fine folk who might step across our bloggy thresholds.  If ye're interested in finding out who we be and what we be writing, and why shouldn't you I dare say, then click this here Link

For this week, I've left my Greek friend Medina behind for a bit, and decided to share a very fun character with you all from my current WIP.  He's a Clurichaun, a close relation to the Leprechaun (but don't tell him that, he can get a wee bit put off if you mistake him for such).  In this part of the story, Ravyn and her mother are tracking down her evil aunt, and are spending the night out amongst the stars.  Ravyn took first watch, and just started to nod off by the fire...

“Baaa, baaaa, baaaaa!”
Ravyn jerked her head up, looking about for the source of the noise.  A large gray sheep came barreling out of the dark trees and into the light from her fire.  She fell backwards as a small man somersaulted from the sheep’s back to land on his unsteady feet before her.
“Ta da!”  He yelled throwing his arms up in the air.
“By the Light, who are you?” Ravyn gasped.
The little man swayed on his feet for a moment, but managed to stay afoot by leaning against his wooly ride.  He swept a little red feather cap off his head and flourished an overly theatrical bow,“Moz folks call me Hiz, hic, Nibz.”

WeWriWa- I said some things...

Oh boy, it's Saturday evening, and I'm prepping my installment for Weekend Writing Warriors.  This is always such a great time of the week for me.  Not only do I get to share eight lines of my WIP with whomever should happen along, but I also get to read lots of fantastic snippets in a variety of genres.  I never know what will be on the menu, and that always gets my curiosity peaked...my literary senses salivating...it makes me hungry for words and where they'll take me.  I always leave satiated, but wanting more.  If you want to know how to join the smorgasbord, or see the menu of this week's offerings, click the link HERE!!!

Last week, we left our harpy in a little fishing shack talking to some of her friends...Medina said the boy pulled the alarm bell and Joff asked her what happened next.

“You should have seen all those crazy rugged sailors getting their shorts a-twist, and all over little old me.”

“I can imagine.  They are afraid of magic,” Joff stated, shaking his head.

“Not afraid enough if you ask me,” Medina crowed, “They shot a harpoon at me.”

Seamus patted at the raw scrape along his cheek.  “They seem to be fond of those,” he growled.

“Then, I got a bit mad, I said some things…,” She blushed, lowering her head and looking up from under her lashes.

Joff burst out laughing, “Did you teach those sailors a word or two?”

Here's the beauty of writing and sharing.  This is my first draft...and written during NaNo, where you are encouraged to write and not edit...which I did.  I realized after getting this installment ready today, that I hadn't written of them shooting a harpoon at her...they had only lobbed cannonballs.  So...I'll need to go back and add a little more excitement to her earlier encounter.  I mention this, because you all are so sharp, I know someone would kindly and rightly point out to me, that she hadn't been shot at with a harpoon.  Today, also introduced another character, Seamus, who happens to be a Selkie.  Some of you might remember him from before, he's met Ena in earlier snippets : )

Sunday (today), I am heading off to my first Comic Con.  I've never been to one, but it seemed like such a fun thing to do.  I think I'm gonna go get my geek on : )  So, if I don't get to your tidbits today, please know within the next day or so, I'll make it happen!

WeWriWa - Seemed like we were getting along...

Good Morning all you warriors, Welcome to my little corner of the blogiverse!  If you happened by here earlier and found last week's snippet instead of this weeks, I am sorry.  I had a very long day yesterday and didn't post it last night...so please forgive me.  If you didn't know I hadn't posted yet, just ignore what was previously mentioned, except for the Good Morning Welcome!  If you don't know what I'm talking about at all...as in, what the heck are warriors and snippets, follow this link HERE!  You will find a treasure trove of talented authors, ones who are already published, whose works are waiting for you to take them home.

Last week Medina the harpy had just seen the rotten little boy pull the alarm bell, the sailors attacked her with cannon balls.  Things did not go well for that ship, but let's see how Medina's taken the whole experience (creative punctuation most definitely in use)...

Medina glided through the morning’s glow, letting the wind replace her anger with fresh exhilaration.  She banked and looped through the dissolving fog, spying rowboats pulled up high on the shore.  She streaked down to the fishing hut, hovering in front of the shabby door, the bursts of air off her wings rattled the door in its frame.  Joff opened the door wide, “Medina, good morning, and how are you this fine day?”
“Oh lovely,” she cried, flitting in through the door to land on the table.  “I talked to a sailor on one of the ships, seemed like we were getting along pretty well, but then he pulled an alarm bell.”

“He pulled the alarm, and that surprised you? What happened next?”

Well, after all you softies were so worried about our little sailor boy, Medina and I conferred and decided the author might be allowed to rewrite that section slightly...Medina's hard to negotiate with as you can imagine.  But, she decided she liked what you all thought of her, and then began chastising me for not thinking of it myself...so, yeah, thanks.  My ears are still burning.

WeWriWa - The resounding stupidity of prejudice

WeWriWa Sundays are hot diggity amazing.  Don't know what they are?  Just click the link below, and it will take you to the site where all the ins and outs of participating will be explained.  You'll also find a list chock full of clever writer's who are sharing 8 lines of their work, in lots of wonderful genre's.

Last week, we left off with cannonball's falling back down onto the ships, and a lone ball falling down into the cargo hold...

The sailors began leaping from the ship.  The young lad in the crow’s nest, scrambled out onto the yardarm, hurling himself into the cold dark sea.  A loud explosion blasted Medina with angry heat, and she flew off toward the fishing hut on the shore, chuckling to herself.
She laughed until tears streamed from her eyes, blurring her vision.  She’d learned nothing from her talk with the young lad, except for the resounding stupidity of prejudice.  Those stupid fools following blind along a path that could lead to their death.  For what?  To save the most evil…

Well it is February, and many of you have been deluged with snow and chilly weather.  I am going to enjoy my next couple days of sunny 70 degree weather in your honor.  We have been unseasonably warm here in Cali, and though I anxiously await some rain to decrease our drought, I might as well enjoy the sun since it will shine regardless : )

As always I love your comments and suggestions.  I'm sort of addicted to them, to tell you truly.

Last week, our little sailor from Rasport rang an alarm bell and sent Medina (a lovely Harpy lass) into a verbal barrage of the naive young sailor lad.  This is raw writing...first draft...and punctuation could be a bit on the creative side. : )

Medina leaped into the sky just as a harpoon sliced through the air to her side.  She began a torrential stream of cursing that rained down over the ship, causing even the most veteran of sailors’ cheeks to burn.
She hovered in the air, the open sea at her back, “You are all ignorant fools, fighting against magic to save one who is the greatest perversion of it!”
Boom-boom-boom, the ships unleashed a volley of cannonballs that streaked toward her.

“I’ve about had it,” she screeched.  She spread her wings wide, pulsing them down with powerful blasts of air, the gift of being a harpy.  The balls fell back down onto the ship, slicing through the mast and crashing down through the deck.  A lone ball rumbled across the wooden planks, to fall through the nets that covered the cargo hull.

Love to hear your thoughts(I'm not sure I'm very happy with this section), so feel free to leave a comment or two...everything helps (whether it's ego stroking or well placed critique that helps me hone the story flow)!
