Happy WeWriWa to you. What? You don't know what that means? Well, every Sunday, authors from around the globe post eight sentences from their work in progress or from a published work. Then, they go around to each other's sites and read and comment and commiserate. Do you have to be an author to participate? Heck no, you can read all these great snippets even if you don't post your own! Follow the link here for a list of all the participants. There's almost every genre imaginable represented!
For my bit of eight this week, we are continuing where we left off last week. Ena, an angry mother dragon, has listened to Princess Ravyn tell of her evil aunt, unravelling protection spells, quests to return crowns, and rightly asked the question...but what has this to do with my egg?
Here's Ravyn's answer:
“Since the
invisibility spell is gone, my aunt is able to locate me through magic, and
she’s trying to eliminate me. I think
she stole your egg, hoping you’d kill me, thinking I took your baby.” She held her breath waiting for the dragon’s
reaction.
The dragon
appeared to ponder her words. “Why
shouldn’t I kill you, then attack your aunt and take my egg back? Dragons care nothing of humans or their petty
wars and struggles.”
“My aunt is very strong in the use of the Dark Arts. If you attack her castle, you will be captured
or killed yourself.” I love your comments, so please feel free to share. And, have a wonderful, restful Sunday!
I absolutely adore dragons. I hope to follow your story in the upcoming weeks. Thanks
ReplyDeleteEna is a lovely dragon, I'm glad you like her! Nice to meet you!
DeleteOh that aunt is evil! Yikes.
ReplyDeleteShe's a right spot of nasty!
DeleteAnother great snippet! I really love how you've crafted her dialogue with the Dragon. It feels very real and I can really picture this scene.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lauren, I'm glad to hear the writing brings visuals for you.
DeleteI can just imagine the dragon snorting at the last comment. Ravyn should be careful what she says. She might have offended her!
ReplyDeleteGreat eight, as usual. :)
Dragons don't have much to fear, but the Dark Arts are something every creature, no matter their size has a healthy respect for. But you're right, Ena would love to get her talons on Zelera!
DeleteAh, think carefully dragon! I am enjoying the exchanges between them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gemma, one of my favorite parts of the story...though I say that about all the parts of the story :)
DeleteThe aunt surely has a convoluted plot going on! but I bet the dragon will only feel more challenged by Ravyn's warning...wow, I'm getting so involved in this story LOL. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThanks Veronica...the aunt is always planning and plotting, that's for sure.
DeleteI hope she listens and they devise a plan together. the aunt sounds dangerous.
ReplyDeleteSince Ravyn's still standing, she might be willing to listen : )
Deletesomething for the dragon to ponder...
ReplyDeleteA bargain may be struck...
DeleteHaving an angry momma dragon as an ally could be decisive. And it's certainly preferable to having her as an enemy. :)
ReplyDelete: )
DeleteThat seems like a lot of maybes for an assassination plot, especially if it went wrong and Evil Aunt ended up with an angry mother dragon after her...
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she was balancing out that possibility with using the dragon's egg like Ena feared. Seems appropriately evil.
It is supposition...but it falls in line with how Zelera's mind works...more of the tale would give you the actual deed : )
DeleteI'm really enjoying this story so far. So much detail. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you. It was a fun story to write : )
DeleteSo is there a bargain in the works. Perhaps they will work together to bring down the evil aunt. :)
ReplyDeleteWe shall see : )
DeleteAh! That answers my questions from last week! I love your world-weaving!
ReplyDeleteYay, thank you : )
DeleteI already don't like that aunt.
ReplyDeleteShe's just downright nasty...it's true : )
DeleteAdd to the mix an evil aunt. I love the complexity and where's the egg? Great story!
ReplyDeleteWhere's the egg? That is the question : )
DeleteInteresting. An evil aunt up to no good...I hope the dragon falls to logic and works with her instead of against her!
ReplyDeleteGetting close to an answer as to what the dragon will do : )
DeleteDark Arts, eh? Sounds evil and spectacular at the same time. lol. I continue to enjoy this exchange between the dragon and Ravyn. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteThe Dark Arts are evil and spectacular...so bad it's good, or not...
DeleteEna let Ravyn say what she's been trying to say! Yay! I wouldn't want to be the evil aunt right now and have an angry mother dragon setting her cross hairs on me. :-)
ReplyDeleteWell done, Millie!.
Thank you Teresa! And I hope you enjoy the full story, when you get the time to delve into it : )
DeleteWith luck, that might get through to the dragon. Great 8
ReplyDeleteyup, she might get a bit lucky!
DeleteWow, definite turmoil there. Really like the dragon's response! Great snippet! Love this story.
ReplyDeleteIts a stressful situation all around!
DeleteAt last we find out! Ravyn makes a good case for not getting flamed. I agree with Karen, I like the dragon's response. Very logical, why should I give a crap. Now will Ena heed the warning or hunt that witch down? Another great 8!
ReplyDeleteHistory Sleuth's Milk Carton Murders
Ena has another egg waiting for her in her nest...
DeleteAh! So Rayvn is making progress with Ena... it's really amazing the way you handle dialogue between dragon and human!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Ena is a lovely person, for a dragon, if you haven't stolen anything from her : )
DeleteHum at least Ravyn is making the dragon think a bit more now.
ReplyDeleteThese two just might work out a deal...we'll see soon : )
DeleteAn interesting debate there.
