Welcome to my humble blog on this fine and wonderful Sunday...or Saturday night if you are sneaking in a little early : ) It's time for that weekly post for Weekend Writing Warriors. If you don't know what it is, please click right (wait for it....) Here! When you follow that magical link, it'll lead you to a list. Not just any list, but a fantastic to read list, by a fantastic bunch of people. There are snippets from stories from just about any genre you could hope for. Even some poetry on occasion!
This week, I am continuing on with Ena and Ravyn. I'm thinking this might be the last bit from this exchange before I move on to something else...either from Return of the Crown, already published, or it's sequel (Still unpublished and as yet...not even named). So, we left off with Ena, worrying her baby might already have been killed by Zelera (Ravyn's very evil and nasty aunt). We start with Rayvn's thoughts on the matter...
“I think she is
planning on hatching your baby. If she
wanted to kill it, she would have left your egg smashed in your cave. So, if you’ll let me, I’ll start working on
what’s left of this raft.” Ravyn sighed.
Ena lifted a taloned
foot where the mast and tangled sail lay smoldering. She crushed some embers out with her
tail. “I’m not saying I will, but
suppose I fly you to Aigerach, to the area of Desolation. You don’t appear to weigh much more than a
little lamb.”
I hope those of you who are participating in NaNoWriMo are seeing the finish line before you and have your sights set on victory! Have a really wonderful weekend, and as always, love to hear what you think : )
Doesn't Ena *eat* lambs? :P
ReplyDeleteI love that. "I'm not saying I will, but suppose..." Very curious as to what the area of Desolation is. Really great eight this week - I can't wait to indulge in more of Ravyn's adventures!
That's how Ena knows she won't weigh too much : )
DeleteOh I certainly hope that the evil aunt didn't destroy the egg, you've gotten us quite vested in the baby dragon's future.
ReplyDeleteThe aunt is a nasty piece of work...it's a real possibility : )
DeleteAnother awesome entry, Millie!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
DeleteOoh, we get to the flying part - yay! I was hoping Ravyn might get a chance to fly...another excellent excerpt.
ReplyDelete: ) Wouldn't that be awesome? Gliding through the skies on the back of a dragon?
DeleteFly her to the Island of Desolation? Frankly I'd prefer a change of venue similar to Bermuda but moving on, this is a delicious eight. A tasty treat for Thanksgiving. No egg, please. The baby will be safely hatched. I decree.
ReplyDeleteYou may be right...Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! She's flying to the Island nation of Aigerach...but will be dropped off at an area called Desolation.
DeleteI really like these characters :-D They're both unique and have strong voices. And your own use use of humor and sometimes irony just works so well.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your opening paragraph, Millie! I'm so glad I found your blog!
Well thank you so much. I'm so thankful to be part of this wonderful group, and I love reading and sharing with all of you so much. Sunday morning is such a treasure to me!
Deletehehe...no more than a little lamb! I love that line, and I love the suggestion of flying her there. I like the burgeoning, shaky friendship that's growing.
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you. Ravyn's tends to make friends with all kinds of characters. She has a knack for it.
DeleteI like the interaction between these two. Suspicion is slowly turning almost into trust!
ReplyDeleteEna doesn't really have too much to lose in trusting Ravyn at this point. She still has an egg back in the nest...she can't leave it for too long.
DeleteWow, interesting and not at all what I was expecting! Nice twist and I love the taloned foot :-) Maybe we'll discover the happenings to that egg yet! Great eight!
ReplyDeletePoor Ravyn, the egg will be just one thing on a growing list of things in this adventure quest.
DeleteInteresting snippet! Perhaps they'll work together and find the egg. Can't wait to find out.
ReplyDeletePerhaps. The more important issue in Ravyn's life at the moment is returning to her homeland to save her parents. The egg just got sort of wrapped up in the deal...
DeleteOoh, now that's a sweet deal! I've always wanted to ride on the back of a dragon, a la The Never Ending Story. lol. I've really enjoyed all these snippets, Millie!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are enjoying the story. Riding a dragon would be fanflippingtastic!
DeleteYes! I want them to work together. Intriguing possibility. Great snippet.
ReplyDelete: ) Better to work together than against each other : )
DeleteI absolutely love Ena's actions in the last paragraph as she's talking---beating out the embers seems like a tacit apology to me. :D
ReplyDeleteShe is feeling a tad guilty : ) But she'd never voice that : )
DeleteCreative as always! Enjoyed your snippet.
ReplyDelete: ) Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
DeleteI love how you describe the dragon haven't destroyed part of the ship. it's such a great visual and sorta funny too that they're chatting in the middle of that situation. Good job!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's been weeks of snippets, but you all are reminded that only moments before, Ena was out of her mind crazy and shredding the crap out of the raft : )
DeleteIt would certainly speed up the return of Ena's baby.
ReplyDeleteHopefully...
DeleteWonderful character
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm sort of partial to her, but I am pretty biased.
DeleteLove that! "I'm not saying I will, but suppose..." She's trying so hard to seem diffident and in control, but really she's just worried for her baby.
ReplyDelete: ) She's not as tough as she appears outwardly : ) She's all momma at heart!
DeleteI'm really, really enjoying this story, and I don't usually read fantasy. Love the Dragon's interaction. Great 8!
ReplyDeleteHistory Sleuth's Milk Carton Murders
Awesome snippet! So I wonder why she wants the egg? Will she enslave the dragon? Poor dragon baby!
ReplyDeleteI think Ena's damning with faint praise there.
ReplyDeleteYes, flying there sounds a lot easier.
