It's the last WeWriWa of 2013! This year has been so awesome, and next year will only be better. If you would like to know more about Weekend Writing Warriors, who they are, what they write, how flipping awesome they are...follow the link right here. If you've been skulking around and reading...but not joining in on the fun, make a New Years Resolution to get involved. We'd love to have you.
I resolve to complete the first draft of my book in the month of January. Augh, I posted that, so now I've gotta make it happen! But, no more excuses about going back to work shrinking my writing time...or any other excuse I might toss out there. I will make it so! And this week, I'm going to share the next eight lines from my WIP with you. I am continuing with Medina and the young boy from Rasport. He's still huddled down in the crow's nest of his ship freaked out by the harpy that is eyeing him. The people from Rasport have outlawed magic and think all things magical are perversions of nature...
Medina
dropped into the nest.
“Ahhh,”
he cried. “Kill me quick. I don’t want to be alive when you eat me.”
“Eat
you,” she laughed, “You are nothing but skin and bones, why would I eat
you?” She reached out a gentle hand and
patted his back.
He
lifted his eyes, peering at her freckled face.
“You aren’t going to eat me?” he breathed.
Enjoy the festivities of the coming week! My dear hubby's birthday is New Year's Eve, so we will be making some noise on Tuesday night for sure : )
Awe, a sweet scene! I love how you paint the characters of your monsters. They're nice monsters. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to the mister!. Have a wonderful birthday/New Year celebration!
You've met Medina before her transformation : ) She wasn't always so understanding and sweet : )
DeleteThis snippet makes me smile. And I imagine there's no better feeling than finding out you're *NOT* about to be eaten. ;D
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff Millie!
Why thank you : ) Glad it gave you a smile.
DeleteWhew! Well that's a good thing! Now what I wonder?
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat as you. Bound and determined to stick to my self imposed deadline. Write on sister!
History Sleuth - A different murder.
We can keep pushing each other onward : )
Deletelol! Wonderful excerpt. Such a short one but I can picture everything, including the terror quickly followed by relief on that boy's face :)
ReplyDelete: ) It's tough for him, he's been taught all things magical are evil...
DeleteAwww, I like Medina. Another excellent excerpt, can't wait for more! I hope your plans for January come to fruition - best wishes!
ReplyDeleteMedina is a bunch of fun! I don't usually make resolutions, but this year, just this one!
DeleteYeah for not being eaten, lol. What a nice thing to know.
ReplyDeleteI need to finish my book in January too, Millie. We can do it. :D
Let's keep each other going! You nudge me, and I'll nudge you ; )
DeleteGreat dialogue Millie! Love the subtle humor from the Harpy and the child's realistic responses. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you : ) Medina has a wonderful personality : ) She likes to have fun : )
DeleteLove this eight! Thanks and Happy New Year Birthday for both of you. Love, Charmaine
ReplyDeleteI'll share the wishes with my dear hubby : ) The new year is always full of potential and excitement!
DeleteLOL, glad she doesn't plan to eat him. Happy birthday and new year for you and your husband
ReplyDeleteYeah, she doesn't eat humans…to my knowledge anyway. I'll have to ask her about that sometime, see if she ever had a taste.
DeleteWell, if she was hungry enough... skin and bones would be better than nothing. o_O
ReplyDeleteI like how her answer implied that she might, in fact, sometimes eat plumper people.
She's such a tease, even when she's trying to calm someone : )
DeletePoor kid. He can relax now. I didn't know harpies were supposed to eat people, but I suppose they had to get their reputation somehow. ;)
ReplyDeleteHe is just freaked out at seeing a magical creature. He thinks the worst of all things magical!
DeleteI can just see his little face and hear his surprise and confusion - lovely bit
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you : )
DeleteOutlawing facts of nature (like legislating pi to be 3) rarely works. (Roi's here; I just forgot to sign up.)
ReplyDelete: ) So true!
DeleteI'm gonna be brave and make a similar resolution with my current WIP! Best of luck to us both! Loved the dialogue in your excerpt today, Millie. I wish you and your birthday boy a very happy New Year! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you right back. If we all post we're gonna write and get it done, we will keep each other accountable...right : )
DeleteGreat snippet! And I'm glad she's not going to snack on him, even if her motivations aren't very altruistic. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of making a similar resolution, but I'm not sure a month is enough time . . . February, maybe?
Okay Sarah...you can have till February : )
DeleteHa! I love that he was bold enough to ask for a quick death. Thanks for sharing and all of your support this year. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteYup, who wants to be torn apart bit by bit? And a Happy New Year back at you Maggie!
DeleteHappy*New*Year and Happy Birthday to your hubs :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie! I'm gonna get my butt to reading this week : )
Deletescared and cowering, I think he was almost disappointed to find she wasn't going to do him in, lol. Happy Birthday to your husband & Happy New Year
ReplyDeleteHe might wish she had in a bit : )
DeleteGreat dialogue once again.
ReplyDeleteThanks : )
DeleteLoved it! Great humor and dialogue. :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen : )
